Insulated Glass Units

Gone are the days when standard sealed units were made with two pieces of 4mm clear float glass. Modern construction now faces a range of challenges when it comes to transparent wall partitions.

In today’s energy-conscious world and in response to changing regulations, sealed units are now manufactured with glass featuring low-emissivity coatings to meet current standards.

Historically, spacer bars were made of aluminium or galvanized steel, but with the push for more energy-efficient sealed units, warm edge spacer bars—crafted from thermally efficient materials—have become the preferred choice.

Thanks to modern technology, double glazing not only prevents heat loss but also offers protection against overheating. Additional features such as noise reduction, safety glass, and UV protection can also be integrated to further enhance performance.

Advancements in modern glass technology have significantly enhanced the benefits of a standard sealed unit. Today, options like self-cleaning, solar reflection, and solar control can be incorporated, offering even more value.

Glass technology has evolved over the years, improving both performance and the range of available features. You can now add benefits such as self-cleaning and solar control to further enhance comfort and functionality.

Sealed units structure

A glazed unit consists of at least two panes of glass with an internal cavity filled with either air or gas. Double or triple glazed units are sealed around the perimeter using a multi-step process. The spacer bar cavity is filled with moisture-adsorbent desiccants to prevent condensation and ensure optimal performance.

Specifications

One of the key evaluation criteria for glass units is airtightness, specifically regarding moisture penetration and the loss of the internal gas, which helps enhance thermal and sound insulation properties.

The solutions used by Press Glass ensure superior airtightness in glazed units, featuring spacer bars with curved or cut corners to maintain optimal perform

All of our sealed units are custom-made to meet each customer’s specific order, tailored to the glass type, size, and any required decorations.

Regardless of the glass selected, both panes (or three, in the case of triple glazing) are thoroughly cleaned using state-of-the-art machinery to remove any grease or fingerprints. The glass is then precisely aligned on either side of the spacer bar using an advanced frame-setting system before being sealed.
