Milestones
of Press Glass UK’S
history
1988
Company Founded
Founded in 1988 in Swansea with a single manual IGU production line, we have always been driven by a clear vision: to deliver exactly what our customers want, when they want it, at a fair price. In the early 1990s, we established a strong customer base in Wales and along the M4 corridor to London.
1996
In-house Toughening Facility
In the following years, as business grew, so did the need to toughen our glass. This led to the establishment of our in-house toughening facility, Vizor Tempered Glass Ltd, in Port Talbot.
2003
Automation & Expansion
Our expansion continued in 2003 with a move to a purpose-built 50,000 sq. ft. factory in Swansea, where investment in automation became essential. The new facility is equipped with three robotic sealed unit lines, two autoloading cutting lines, and three spacer bar benders, allowing us to produce nearly 30,000 sealed units per week. Coupled with the latest state-of-the-art electronic ordering, optimization, and planning software, this move enabled us to expand our reach into Southern and Southeast England.
2007
New Factory in Cardiff
In 2007, we acquired a factory just north of Cardiff, strategically located near our flagship site in Swansea to unify our brand. This acquisition expanded our capacity and enabled us to service a larger geographical area, from Southwest to Northwest England.
2009
Launch of Climate Glass
In 2009, we launched Climate Glass, a dedicated portfolio of Insulated Glass Units for the conservatory and roof glass market. Over time, the brand has built a strong reputation, known for its advanced features that significantly enhance interior comfort. Our Climate glass products are now part of our Advanced Glass Options range.
The introduction of Climate glass and the services we offer led to a surge in new customers. In response, the company made further investments to ensure we met the needs of both current and prospective customers, delivering exactly what they want, when they want it, at a fair price.
2010
Market Leader in IGUs (UK)
Thanks to our customers’ trust, in 2010 we became the leading producer of Insulated Glass Units for the fenestration industry, securing the largest share of the UK market. Since then, our customers have continued to benefit from our growing stability and capacity, which has, in turn, supported their own business growth.
2014
New Factory in Peterborough
In 2014, we invested in a new 40,000 sq. ft. factory in Peterborough, strategically located just off the A1 motorway to efficiently supply Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, East Anglia, and South Yorkshire. This site is equipped with three robotic sealed unit lines, three cutting lines, and a Tamglass 2448 Pro Convection Toughening furnace. Thanks to this advanced setup, the site now produces over 20,000 IGUs per week.
2015
Joined Press Glass Group
In 2015, we became part of the globally recognised Press Glass Group, the largest independent IGU manufacturer in Europe for the construction and window industry. This integration marked the beginning of aligning our values, strengths, and operational methods with those of the global organization, enabling us to deliver even greater benefits to our customers.
2017
Acquisition of Pilkington Factories
In 2017, we acquired two factories in the UK from Pilkington, one in Barnsley and the other just outside Glasgow. Our vision was to invest in and expand both facilities, further strengthening our position in the UK market and ensuring comprehensive national coverage.
2023
New Investment in Port Talbot
In 2023, we acquired land in Port Talbot, South Wales, to build a state-of-the-art factory that will consolidate our three existing sites into one. This new facility will feature advanced technology and machinery, enabling us to increase our production capacity from 40,000 to 60,000 IGUs per week. This expansion will further strengthen our ability to support our customers, specifically within the residential market in the UK.
2024
Rebranding to Press Glass
Our business continues to grow and strengthen, driven by the quality of our products, exceptional service, and the ongoing introduction of new innovations across our sites. We believe now is the right time to re-launch under the Press Glass brand, aligning our identity with that of our parent company. This is a natural evolution for us, and it will not only benefit our company but also enhance our position within the industry. We will officially become Press Glass on April 1st, 2024.
